Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man is celebrating his 70th anniversary—well, kind of.
The author and illustrator is launching a tour to mark the canine hero’s 10th anniversary (that’s 70 dog years, as publisher Scholastic notes).
Pilkey’s graphic novel series began in 2016 with Dog Man, which introduced young readers to the titular character, a canine-human hybrid who protects his community from crime. The series now has 14 installments, the latest of which, Big Jim Believes, was published last November.
A new book in the series, A Sprinkle in Time, is slated for publication on Nov. 3, and an interactive volume, Dog Man Dynamite, is due in August 2027.
Pilkey will embark on a 10-city tour to celebrate the anniversary, beginning on Nov. 3 with a stop at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver, British Columbia. Other stops include venues in Illinois, England, Georgia, Missouri, Texas, California, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Ohio. Scholastic says the visits will feature “an interactive author presentation, fun activities, photo ops, exclusive giveaways, and more.”
Ken Geist, vice president and publisher of Pilkey Publishing, said in a statement, “For more than four decades, Dav Pilkey has been an inspiring global ambassador for reading. Ten years of Dog Man is a celebration of an extraordinary publishing phenomenon and Dav’s enduring influence for kids everywhere to become a reader, an artist, and a force for good.”
