John Grisham has a new legal thriller coming in 2027.
Doubleday will publish the novelist’s The Verdicts next fall, the press announced in a news release, calling it “a compelling new novel steeped in the courtroom drama, legal intrigue, and suspense that readers have come to expect from John Grisham.” It will bring back the character of Simon Latch, a Virginia lawyer whom Grisham introduced in his 2025 whodunit, The Widow.
Grisham made his literary debut in 1989 with A Time To Kill. He followed that up two years later with The Firm, which became a massive bestseller, and was adapted into a 1993 hit film directed by Sydney Pollack and starring Tom Cruise, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Gene Hackman. Grisham has had 53 consecutive New York Times bestsellers since The Firm, according to Doubleday.
“I had a lot of fun writing The Widow, and I loved Simon Latch so much that he’s coming back next year in The Verdicts,” Grisham said in a statement. “Readers will find Simon practicing law in the courtroom once again, this time facing multiple cases and trying for a chance at redemption.”
The Verdicts is slated for publication on Oct. 19, 2027.
