Emily Henry’s next novel is coming in 2027, People magazine reports.

Berkley will publish the romance author’s Modern Classic in the spring. The press does not yet have a description of the novel, but in an appearance on Jenna Bush Hager’s podcast in June, Henry said the book would be “a pretty straightforward romantic comedy” and “feels a little bit like my take on The Holiday in a very small way,” referring to Nancy Meyers’ 2006 film.

Henry made her literary debut in 2016 with the young adult novel The Love That Split the World; she wrote three other YA books before publishing her first novel for adults, Beach Read, in 2020. In a 2022 interview with Kirkus, Henry discussed pivoting to adult fiction, saying, “When I started writing Beach Read, I didn’t think I would be pursuing publication—I saw it as a fun escape from writer’s block I was having elsewhere. But as I got into the story, I realized that I was actually writing another coming-of-age novel, only the characters were in their late 20s and early 30s.…Then I had the semihorrifying realization that this was just going to keep happening for my entire life. I think I’ll end up writing coming-of-age stories about 65-year-olds.”

Beach Reads became a bestseller, as have all her subsequent adult novels: People We Meet on Vacation, Book Lovers, Happy Place, Funny Story, and, most recently, Great Big Beautiful Life.

People We Meet on Vacation was adapted into a 2026 film directed by Brett Haley and starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth. Beach Read, Book Lovers, and Funny Story are all being adapted as films, too.

Modern Classic is slated for publication on April 6, 2027.
